With the 2022 NFL free agency right around the corner it's time to evaluate two players the New Orleans Saints should straight-up avoid. This roster is in need of some serious help on the offensive side of the ball, even with Michael Thomas returning. We'll see how the offseason plays out for this franchise, as the cap situation could hinder this team from making any big moves.

The Saints arguably have the worst wide receiver room in the league. Thomas will fix a lot of problems, but New Orleans needs to make drastic improvements to the remaining group. The front office could look to free agency to bring in a good fit for the offense. However, making the wrong decision could prove to be an issue.

A giant question mark looms over the quarterback situation in New Orleans. Nobody is entirely sure who will be under center next year, but the Saints could be searching for the next starter in free agency. When it comes down to it, there is one free agent quarterback the front office should consider writing off the board.

Considering the defense is loaded, there is reason to believe the Saints can be competitive next year. That's especially true with how wide-open the NFC South could be. That makes signing the right players detrimental to this franchise's success next season.

With that said, here are two players the Saints should avoid in the 2022 NFL free agency.

2 Saints Free Agents Avoid

2. Will Fuller V

There are actually multiple reasons why the Saints should sign Will Fuller V. He's a solid deep threat and would serve as an excellent second-option behind Michael Thomas. Put those two together while the front office potentially adds a talented receiver through the NFL Draft and suddenly New Orleans is back in business. Unfortunately, there is one glaring reason why the front office should avoid Fuller completely.

As good as he is, Will Fuller V has struggled to remain on the field throughout his career. Whether it's nagging injuries or a suspension, Fuller has yet to finish an entire season. Many are hopeful he can bounce back, but for the Saints, it's probably not worth the risk. When it comes to the wide receiver room, New Orleans should consider guys who are safer options.

A couple of targets that stand out as unique options are Christian Kirk and Russell Gage. Neither of which are going to break the bank through free agency and they can serve as a decent second-option behind Michael Thomas. Look for the front office to possibly seek to sign either Kirk or Gage, as both of them would improve the offense in general.

1. Mitchell Trubisky

After spending a season sitting on the sidelines as Josh Allen's backup for the Buffalo Bills, it sounds like Mitchell Trubisky is going to sign a decent-sized contract in the offseason. Multiple teams are rumored to be interested in signing the former first-round pick and the Saints could be one of them. Even though New Orleans needs an upgrade at quarterback, Trubisky is likely not the answer.

The veteran quarterback is still only 27 years old, which means he has plenty of time to possibly forge a comeback. However, based on what we've seen from him playing for the Chicago Bears, Mitchell Trubisky could be the same player he's always been. For that reason, the Saints would be better off acquiring a different quarterback in the offseason.

Two quarterbacks that stand out as possible suitors are Jameis Winston and Jimmy Garoppolo. Winston played well before falling to a season-ending injury and could resurrect his career in New Orleans. Garoppolo is rumored to be traded soon and the Saints might want to consider making that deal. Their offensive scheme matches Garoppolo's playing style and he's been rather decent for the San Francisco 49ers, despite what people say about him.

Look for New Orleans Saints to either re-sign Jamies Winston before the 2022 NFL free agency period, or trade for Jimmy Garoppolo. Of course, they could always draft a rookie quarterback in the offseason as well.
