With the offseason in full swing, it's time we take a dive into the Tennessee Titans 2022 NFL free agency outlook. We've already have gone over who they should sign or re-sign, so instead, we'll look into two Titans free agents this franchise should avoid. Considering the front office is likely to bring in a plethora of pass catchers, we'll be focusing on tight ends and wide receivers.

This team will be making drastic changes to the tight end room. So much so, it could be a group consisting of all new faces. We should see the Titans draft a rookie tight end at some point in the NFL Draft. However, the coaching staff will want a starting caliber veteran as well. Which veteran should they avoid?

Tennessee is top-heavy when it comes to the wide receiver department. For that reason, it's time this franchise re-tools the receiving core. Similar to the tight end position, we could see the Titans acquire an exciting receiver in free agency and the draft. Even so, they'll want to avoid making the wrong decision.

With that said, here are two players the Titans should avoid in the 2022 NFL free agency.

2 Titans Free Agents To Avoid

2. OJ Howard

He entered the league as one of the most exciting tight end prospects but has failed to live up to the hype. Throughout OJ Howard's career, he's been outplayed by guys like Rob Gronkowski (who hasn't) and Cameron Brate. Howard has maintained a roster spot with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he hasn't done anything unique to make anyone believe he can bounce back in the Titans' offense.

Besides last season, the Titans tend to get creative with their tight end group. Due to a lack of athleticism, Tennessee couldn't get much going out of that position. Although OJ Howard has plenty of athleticism, none of it has translated at the NFL level. This offense needs a consistent pass option who excels at blocking. Howard doesn't fit the bill for either of those needs.

Someone like Dalton Schultz or Davin Njoku would make more sense than OJ Howard. Both Schultz and Njoku have proven to be solid blockers. Additionally, they each have showcased the ability to be reliable in the passing game. The Titans should avoid Howard like the plague and try to land a much more efficient tight end in the 2022 NFL free agency.

1. Juju Smith-Schuster

Juju Smith-Schuster is a talented wide receiver and would probably play well in the Titans' offensive scheme. However, there are reasons for multiple teams to avoid signing him in free agency. For example, the best years of his career were early on when Antonio Brown was still the superstar receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Since then, Juju Smith-Schuster has failed to repeat the incredible stat-line that made him a household name. Considering AJ Brown is the elite superstar for the Titans, Smith-Schuster could thrive as a second or third option for Tennessee. Even so, his personality could clash with the players within the locker room. Last offseason, Brown let it slip he would not want to play with Smith-Schuster before ultimately deleting that tweet.

Furthermore, Smith-Schuster would likely ask for a contract the Titans cannot afford. Tennessee should be searching for a veteran receiver with a more team-friendly contract. A couple of free agents that stand out as potentially good fits are Russell Gage and Christian Kirk. They'd serve as legitimate third options and allow the front office to possibly select an exciting rookie in the NFL Draft.
