2019 was a somewhat forgettable season for the Dallas Cowboys. Ending the season with an 8-8 win-loss record, the Cowboys notched their first non-winning season since 2015. They also missed the playoffs for the second time in three years. With contact issues for some of their stars, a change in the head coaching job and a few departures for some key players, it would be interesting to see how the upcoming season will unfold for “America’s Team”.

Let's look at the three biggest questions for the upcoming 2020 NFL Season for the Dallas Cowboys.

  1. How will Mike McCarthy do in his first year as head coach?

After almost a decade leading the squad, the Cowboys decided to move on from head coach Jason Garrett and sign long-time Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy. McCarthy had a decorated stint with the Packers, bringing the team to eight straight playoff appearances from 2009-2016 and a Super Bowl championship in 2011. The 56-year old head coach has also coached a handful of great quarterbacks in his career with names like Joe Montana, Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers under his wing. With a gold mine in QB Dak Prescott, it’s no wonder owner Jerry Jones went for McCarthy to lead the way for the young Cowboys. Is McCarthy poised to bring the Cowboys back to their glory days?

  1. Is Dak Prescott signing a deal?

Even if the 2019 regular season ended early for the Cowboys, star quarterback Dak Prescott had himself a season. The 26-year old Louisiana native, posted career-bests in 2019 with a total of 4,902 passing yards and 30 passing touchdowns after 16 games. Contract issues though have been looming around Prescott and it seems that his reps and the front office have been on an impasse. A few months ago, Prescott was offered an exclusive franchise tag by the Cowboys worth $31.4 million for the upcoming season which the quarterback has yet to sign. It's been reported that Prescott wants a four-year deal, but the Cowboys are countering with a five-year contract. The two sides have until July 15 to make a final decision on Prescott's contract. Is the 2016 Rookie of the Year signing a deal? If so, which one? When?

3. How will the young ones fair?

The Dallas Cowboys were arguably the best team to come out of the 2020 NFL Draft. For starters, they landed wide receiver CeeDee Lamb at the 17th pick.  The first-team All American was one of the biggest talents in the draft and the Cowboys were lucky to snag him at that spot.  Another rookie which is expected to make immediate impact is 51st overall pick Trevon Diggs. The young 22-year old will be filling in a huge role in the corner for the Cowboys. These two, along with their five other drafted rookies (plus a couple of signed undrafted gems), will have their work cut out for them. Will these young talents re-energize the squad? Does an “A” grade in the draft guarantee a playoff spot for the Cowboys?
