The Cleveland Guardians are currently in first place in the American League Central. However, they have endured a rather streaky season up to date, After starting off with two losses, Cleveland proceeded to win 4 games in a row. They were then swept by the Giants before they went on to sweep the White Sox. They most recently dropped a game to the Yankees 4-1, but will look to find some consistency and earn a win over the weekend.

Although they have been a difficult team to figure out, the Guardians have been one of the most exciting teams to watch in baseball through the early going. Fans are beginning to believe in this team.

Here are 3 early season overreactions after 2 weeks of the season for the Cleveland Guardians.

3 Guardians Early Season Overreactions

Steven Kwan is a Superstar!

You can't do a Guardians' overreaction piece without mentioning Steven Kwan in 2022. After all, he was one of the most talked about players in the MLB throughout the first couple weeks of the season after his torrid start. But Steven Kwan has continued his success as of late. He is currently slashing .395/.510/.579 with a 1.089 OPS. He has yet to homer but has smashed 5 doubles.

Kwan is also a rookie and his success will be difficult to maintain over the long haul. So who really is Steven Kwan? Is he a superstar? Or is he a decent player simply off to a great start?

Kwan rarely swings and misses and has an elite strikeout rate of just 7.8 percent. He also walks quite a bit as evidenced by his 17.7 percent walk rate. He has displayed great plate vision and disciple batting in front of Jose Ramirez in the Guardians lineup. Ramirez leads the league in RBI's and Kwan's on-base ability is a major reason why.

But Kwan has a hard hit percentage of just 22.2 percent. He has a line drive rate of 27.8 percent, fly ball rate of 22.2 percent, and ground ball rate of 41.7 percent. So he isn't exactly smashing the ball. But he puts the ball in play almost every time and his ground balls are tending to find holes. His line drive rate isn't awful either.

Final verdict: Steven Kwan is not yet a superstar. But Guardians fans reserve the right to be excited after the team traded former superstar Francisco Lindor last year. Kwan is a good player who will garner Rookie of the Year consideration. If he can maintain his on-base ability there is a strong chance that Jose Ramirez leads the league in RBI's as well. Superstar or not, he is extremely valuable to the Guardians lineup.

The Guardians are a Great Offensive Team!

This would have been labeled as a completely false narrative prior to the season. But Cleveland has gotten off to a ridiculous offensive start. The Guardians are 2nd in batting average and slugging percentage, 4th in OBP, and 3rd in runs scored. Unsung heroes such as the aforementioned Kwan, Myles Straw, Owen Miller, Oscar Mercado, and Andres Gimenez have all stepped up.

The lineup's elite pace may not be sustainable. But there is no denying the fact that the Guardians have a better offense than most people expected.

Jose Ramirez is the star of this team. His desire to stay with the Guardians earned him a long-term extension and his passion for the city of Cleveland may be a reason for the team's strong play to open the 2022 campaign. Ramirez is slashing a remarkable .392/.439/.765 with a 1.203 OPS, 4 home runs and 20 RBI's through just 13 games. Although the Guardians may not actually be a great offensive team, Ramirez is a great offensive player who might win his first MVP award this year.

Final Verdict: This is an overreaction…. but it is not as insane as it would have sounded two weeks ago. The Guardians have some talent in the lineup and if they can produce decent numbers Cleveland will be competitive since they have a strong pitching rotation.

Cleveland Features the Best Pitching Rotation in the MLB!

The Guardians are 3rd in WHIP and 7th in ERA as of this story's publication. Shane Bieber, Zach Plesac, and Triston McKenzie all have ERA's under 2.50. We know Bieber is an ace, but Plesac and McKenzie could be on the verge of a breakout season.

Cal Quantrill has also been solid. Aaron Civale has struggled out of the gates but the Guardians still believe he will be a vital piece to the puzzle moving forward.

But is this the best rotation in the majors? The Dodgers and Mets would certainly have something to say about that. The Dodgers feature 3 legitimate aces in Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, and Julio Urias with quality depth behind them. The Mets early season pitching has been extremely impressive even without Jacob deGrom in the mix.

However, Cleveland certainly has a case for best American League pitching rotation.

Final verdict: The Guardians don't have the best staff in the entire MLB. But their rotation is really good and they could finish near the top of baseball in most pitching categories.
