The Los Angeles Chargers are in the midst of one of the best off-seasons in the entire NFL. General manager Tom Telesco led his front office to an elite free agency, adding big names such as J.C. Jackson and Khalil Mack to an already strong roster. Now Telesco has one more shot to add game-changing talent to the roster. The 2022 NFL Draft is fast approaching. There is one prospect who could immediately make a huge impact for the Chargers. University of Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis and Los Angeles are one of the most natural matches in the NFL for a variety of reasons.

3 Reasons Jordan Davis is the Best Fit For the Chargers in the 2022 NFL Draft

3. Davis fills the weakest position on the roster

The Chargers have done a fantastic job at revamping their defense, but defensive tackle is still a liability. Last season, Los Angeles started Jerry Tillery and Linval Joseph at the position. Joseph is currently a free agent, and Tillery is one of the worst defensive linemen in the NFL. The Chargers will start newly-signed tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day, but they should do anything in their power to move Tillery to the bench. Drafting Davis in the first round immediately solves that problem and gives Los Angeles a top five defensive line in the NFL.

2. Davis fixes the biggest defensive problem the Chargers had in 2021

While Los Angeles was a playoff-caliber team in 2021, their lack of run defense killed them. The Chargers allowed 138 rushing yards per game and 4.6 yards per carry. Both of those were among the worst in the NFL. That's where Davis comes in. He's an absolute behemoth, standing 6'6″ and weighing 340 pounds. During his time in the SEC, he proved himself to be nearly immovable to opposing offensive linemen. Davis' tape shows him consistently wrecking run plays by taking on double teams with ease or absolutely destroying any lone offensive lineman unlucky enough to block him. His strength is unreal, and it will stay that way in the NFL. Vita Vea of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is a great comparison. Vea has turned himself into a crucial member of one of the best run defenses in the league.

1. Davis provides instant value as a first-round pick

Many first round picks aren't ready to perform at a high level in their rookie season. Because of his play style and his massive frame, that won't be a problem for Davis. He's ready to start in the NFL right away. That is something that's incredibly valuable for a contending Chargers team. It doesn't make any sense for Los Angeles to take a player who isn't ready to play in the first round. They feel that they are on the brink of a Super Bowl. Their drafting should reflect that. Davis is the best player the Chargers could select to help them win games right away.
