The Seattle Storm take on the Minnesota Lynx. Our WNBA odds series has our Storm Lynx prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Storm Lynx.

The Seattle Storm hope they have a roster which can rise to a playoff standard in the WNBA this season. The acquisitions of Skylar Diggins-Smith and Nneka Ogwumike were supposed to significantly elevate the Storm, who struggled last year and finished near the bottom of the WNBA. However, in the season opener on Tuesday night against the Minnesota Lynx, Seattle's core wasn't mostly there. Ogwumike answered the call with 20 points on 10-of-18 shooting, but the other two primary players on the roster — players expected to be top-tier contributors this season — stumbled out of the gate in the opener. Diggins-Smith was just 4 of 13 from the field, and returning star Jewell Loyd, the top scorer in the WNBA last year, had a shocking 3-of-19 shooting performance from the field. The Storm aren't going to win many games in which Loyd was 3 of 19 from the floor. Loyd needs to play up to her capabilities and give Seattle the scoring punch it has come to expect from her. Loyd averaged 24.7 points per game for Seattle last season, so her 10-point performance against Minnesota was nearly 15 points below her 2023 per-game average. The Storm could not overcome that disparity versus Minnesota.

The Lynx have to be very encouraged about their 13-point win in Seattle. The victory itself is great, but the way the Lynx won has to be especially satisfying. Minnesota held Seattle to just 10 fourth-quarter points. Locking up both Loyd and Diggins-Smith shows this team's perimeter and wing defense can be very good. It's up to the Lynx to prove that display on Tuesday wasn't a one-hit wonder and that Minnesota can replicate that level of defensive attentiveness.

Why The Storm Could Cover The Spread

Jewell Loyd will not shoot 3 for 19 again. If the Storm can get a 50-percent shooting performance from Loyd, or something very close to it, that should enable Seattle to make up the points difference from Tuesday. A minus-13 can turn into a plus-3, which would enable the Storm to cover the spread.

Why The Lynx Could Cover The Spread

The ability to smother Jewell Loyd might not be fully duplicated in this game, but Minnesota still showed a lot of talent and acumen at the defensive end of the floor. As long as Loyd stays under 45 percent from the field and doesn't hit too many 3-pointers, the Lynx can continue to limit Seattle's scoring output and get a win in a game where the spread is close to a pick 'em. Minnesota also scored 83 in Seattle on Tuesday. The Lynx's offense is comfortable, and that should help Minnesota win here.

Final Storm-Lynx Prediction & Pick

This game is a coin flip. Will Jewell Loyd shoot better? Will Minnesota defend as well as it did a few days ago in Seattle? These are hard questions to answer, so as a result, you should stay away from this game and consider only a live-betting play, not a pre-match play.

Final Storm-Lynx Prediction & Pick: Lynx +1.5
