San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Dante Pettis suffered an MCL injury during his team's loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday and will miss the season finale against the Los Angeles Rams next week, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.

The good news is that Pettis, who caught three passes for 21 yards before exiting the game, will avoid surgery.

On the year, Pettis hauled in 27 receptions for 465 yards and five touchdowns.

The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Washington, was selected by the 49ers in the second round (44th pick overall) of the NFL Draft back in the spring.

He had one 100-yard game this season, racking up 129 yards and a couple of scores during a loss to the Seattle Seahawks back on Dec. 2.

Pettis played four seasons at Washington, accumulating 163 catches, 2,256 yards and 24 touchdowns during his tenure with the Huskies. His best year came in his junior campaign, when he snared 53 balls for 822 yards while reaching the end zone 15 times.

San Francisco dropped to 4-11 on the season after the loss to the Bears and saw its two-game winning streak snapped.

It has been a rough year for the 49ers, who have gone through three starting quarterbacks. They began the year with Jimmy Garoppolo under center, but Garoppolo tore his ACL during a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3, ending his season.

The Niners then turned to C.J. Beathard for five games before turning the reins over to rookie signal-caller Nick Mullens, who has actually been fairly impressive.
