Much like in the NBA, the GOAT debate continues unabated in the NFL. While many believe that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time, one living legend has a different opinion on that matter: iconic San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice.

Rice joined 95.7 The Game to give his take on who he believes is the GOAT in the NFL. Not surprisingly, he chose one of his former teammates, Joe Montana.

“I'm going to go with Joe Montana because, like I said, it was a different era,” Rice said. “Not taking anything away from what's happening today, but you look at the game today, the way it's played, you look at how receivers are protected – I never thought I would see an era where the running back doesn't have to be on the ground for them to stop the play because this, to me, is supposed to be tackle football. So, it's a whole different era, and I would go with Montana any day because he was Joe Cool, and he was in an era where he was not as protected.”

Of course, while Rice makes a vaguely compelling argument, it is also undeniable that the talent level around the NFL is higher now than it ever was during Rice and Montana’s heyday—a fact that Rice breezes by with little discussion.18/202

Even beyond that, Tom Brady has been to more Pro Bowls, won more Super Bowls, and was awarded more Super Bowl MVP awards than Montana ever did.

Brady can add more to his stellar resume if the Buccaneers continue to win.
