All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman is entering training camp with another team aside from the Seattle Seahawks for the first time as he's taking the field with the San Francisco 49ers.

Although Sherman has yet to be able to fully participate in the team offseason workouts at this point in time due to his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon, he isn't wasting any time in mentoring his young teammates while he's on the practice field in some capacity.

The addition of Sherman brings aboard a proven veteran to the mix for a secondary that struggled tremendously last season. In fact, it was one of the biggest weak points for the 49ers defensively that makes the acquisition of the Pro Bowl cornerback a potentially huge move to stabilize that aspect of the defense.

Sherman is already embracing the increased leadership role with the other young cornerbacks on the roster that will look to him for advice and guidance throughout the offseason and the upcoming campaign.

Sherman certainly has a lot of credibility with what he says given that he has had much success up to this point of his career. He has established himself as one of the premier players at his position, earning four Pro Bowl selections, three First-Team All-Pro nods, and a Second-Team All-Pro selection in his first eight seasons all spent with the Seahawks.

This is a unique opportunity for Sherman to show his value as a cornerstone for the 49ers away from the stacked secondary he was a part of in Seattle that earned the name “Legion of Boom” over the last several seasons.

The only question at this point is whether he can remain the same effective player after tearing his Achilles tendon that is often a career-changing injury. It is something only time will tell what kind of impact it will have on his performance on the field.
