The injuries continue to pile up for the San Francisco 49ers early in Sunday's contest versus the New York Giants. According to ESPN's Field Yates, Jordan Reed suffered an injury to his ankle while attempting to catch a pass.

On the play he was injured, Reed was thrown a pass by Nick Mullens that could have resulted in a touchdown. Instead, the two couldn't connect on the throw and the veteran tight end came up laboring his ankle after the play concluded.

Of course, an injury to Reed is less-than-ideal considering that he's in the game to replace All-Pro George Kittle. Reed was able to catch seven passes for 50 yards and two touchdowns in Week 2 amid Kittle's absence.

In the past two weeks, the 49ers have been decimated by injuries to players on both sides of the ball. During the team's blowout victory over the New York Jets last week, both Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas sustained torn ACL's, ending their seasons prematurely.

Along with Bosa and Thomas, Jimmy Garoppolo and Raheem Mostert were unable to play in the second half due to leg injuries. Both Garoppolo and Mostert were forced to miss San Francisco's game against the Giants on Sunday, but they could return sooner rather than later.

As for Reed, injuries have unfortunately been a common theme of his career, missing a total of 47 games in his first eight seasons in the NFL. If Reed is unable to return, Ross Dwelley and rookie Charlie Woerner could see more playing time.
