Former Washington Redskins Pro Bowl offensive tackle Trent Williams will join a new team for the first time in 10 years as he headed to the San Francisco 49ers via trade this offseason. I

f the 31-year-old veteran tackle has any worries about hooking up with a new franchise, he doesn't show it. In fact, Williams called the 49ers a “perfect destination.”

“I know this offense like the back of my hand,” Williams told the media in a video call on Thursday afternoon, via The Athletic's Matt Barrows on Twitter.

The 49ers are coached by Kyle Shanahan, who spent four seasons during the early part of Williams' NFL career with the Redskins as their offensive coordinator. Williams landing back with Shanahan but on the west coast should back up the seven-time Pro-Bowler's, who sat out the 2019 season aggrieved with the D.C. franchise, bold claim.

Williams has also been paying close attention to Shanahan's group, watching the 49ers on film, per the San Jose Mercury‘s Cam Inman:

“Last year I had a lot of time to sit and watch a lot of football. With the success of this team it was on prime time a lot so I watched ton of 49ers tape, and with me familiar with the coaching staff, I always felt a part of the extended family.

“This was a preferred destination on mine because of my familiarity with Kyle and the offense. And with this an ascending team, I thought I'd fit right in.”

Williams joins a super-charged San Francisco team on the heels of a Super Bowl appearance. He will be immediately tasked with protecting franchise quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
