San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan made the bizarre decision on Sunday to rotate his quarterbacks between Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo–a move that certainly raised the eyebrows of more than just a few people. After all, it's already their final preseason game and the team still hasn't given any indication of who'll be QB1 when the season starts in a couple of weeks.

Lance, however, doesn't mind the decision and the uncertainty of the starting QB role for the team. Apparently, they were aware of it and even had repetitions to execute the two-QB system perfectly.

“I was prepared for it, Jimmy was too,” Lance said of the 49ers' QB decision, per NBC Sports. “I’m sure he answered it the same way. We had repped it so it was good to get game reps and really see how it really feels.”

The two signal-callers both failed to get a touchdown, but they did ran for a score each to lead the 49ers to a 34-10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Trey Lance ended the night with six passes completed on 13 attempts for 46 yards, while Jimmy Garoppolo went 4-of-7 for 64 yards.

After the game, Jimmy G. admitted the two-QB system was “tough.” But he did show his appreciation for it and its potential to be an effective strategy for the team moving forward.

“We had two successful drives with it, scored on both of them,” Garoppolo said, per Yahoo Sports. “It’s tough for defenses to handle that. I’ve never been in that situation, but just seeing it firsthand today, it’s hard on them.”

It's not the first time that Garoppolo admitted his unfamiliarity with the new system as the 49ers try to make the most of Lance–the third overall pick of the 2021 Draft–and Garoppolo. However, it is clear the veteran QB is trying hard to embrace it and see if it will prove to be beneficial for the team in their bid to return to Super Bowl contention.
