The Arizona Cardinals had some growing pains in the first year of quarterback Kyler Murray and head coach Kliff Kingsbury, but this looks like a team that could be a playoff contender in a year or two.

For the postseason to happen in the desert, the Cardinals need to have a good free agency period and draft. So who should the team target in free agency? Let's breakdown three players the Cardinals should pursue this offseason.

3. TE Eric Ebron

The Arizona Cardinals don't use the tight end a lot in the receiving game, but it would still make a lot of sense to go after Eric Ebron. Maxx Williams stepped up his game in 2019, but his main strength is with blocking. On the season, he finished with 15 receptions for 202 yards and a touchdown.

The more big-bodied targets Murray has is for, the better, and Ebron fits right into that category. Ebron was banged up in 2019, so his stats were down a bit, but in 2018, he finished with 110 catches for 750 yards and 13 touchdowns.

He also could line up out wide and be a mismatch for defenders out there. Ebron is the perfect player for this offense, and he should be one of the top targets for the Cardinals.

2. RB Melvin Gordon

Running back Kenyan Drake was a big part of the Cardinals' success at the end of the season, but there is no guarantee the team will be able to re-sign him.

Even if they can bring him back, the Cardinals shouldn't be afraid to spend some big bucks on a running back. Gordon held out for part of the 2019 season but still finished the season rushing 162 times for 612 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 42 passes out of the backfield.

David Johnson still has two years left on his contract, and it would probably be best for the team to try and find a trade partner to get his contract off their hands.

1. OG Brandon Scherff

The Cardinals offensive line was a big issue this year, and there are plenty of options for ways to improve it. Brandon Scherff is young and one of the only bright spots on the Washington Redskins.

They are probably going to be plenty of teams trying to get Scherff, so they might have to get into a bidding war to get him. The Cardinals need to protect their young quarterback, and bringing in Scherff along with another offensive lineman would be a significant improvement.
