Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will no longer be wearing the armband for Arsenal after another disciplinary breach.

In a statement released by Arsenal‘s official website, the club announced that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has now been stripped of club captaincy.

“Following his latest disciplinary breach last week, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will no longer be our club captain, and will not be considered for selection for Wednesday's match against West Ham United,” the statement read.

“We expect all our players, particularly our captain, to work to the rules and standards we have all set and agreed. We are fully focused on tomorrow’s match.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had lifted the lid on the Gabonese striker's situation heading into the English Premier League match against Southampton.

According to Arteta, Auba was indeed excluded from the squad that beat the Saints 3-0 because of the aforementioned “disciplinary breach.” The Spaniard further stressed that Arsenal has been “very consistent” in the implementation of sanctions, especially with their “certain non-negotiables.”

“Unfortunately due to a disciplinary breach,” Arteta told the media when asked about Aubameyang's exclusion via Give Me Sport.

“I think we have been very consistent that we have certain non-negotiables in the team that we have set ourselves as a club, and he's not involved today,” the manager pointed out.

As per The Athletic's David Ornstein and James McNicholas, Arsenal has allowed Aubameyang to travel abroad before the Southampton game to attend to some personal matter. It was all good until the 2016 African Footballer of the year “returned later than agreed.”

Arsenal will be looking to continue where they left off against West Ham United at home at the Emirates Stadium.
