Frenkie de Jong is facing an uncertain future at Barcelona amid reports that the club could look to sell him this summer in order to avoid sustaining a financial loss in a future sale. According to Gerard Romero, Manchester United are expected to bring de Jong to Old Trafford and reunite him with former Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag this summer on a fee worth €70-80 million.

Romero shockingly claims there's as much as a 95% chance that the de Jong transfer will be completed and made official before the end of May as Manchester United look to move swiftly to poach the midfield superstar.

If de Jong were to stay at Barcelona beyond this season, the club is under the impression that when it came time to sell, they would be taking a loss financially. Thus, they want to turn a profit on the Dutch midfielder, and can do so by moving on from him during the upcoming transfer window.

The links to Manchester United make a ton of sense considering the team just hired Ten Hag from Ajax. de Jong rose to prominence under Ten Hag while playing in the top flight in the Netherlands, and could be keen to reunite with the manager who helped him reach such lofty heights.

de Jong has spent the past three seasons at Barcelona, featuring in 97 matches and starting 88. He's scored 20 goals and assisted 28 during his spell at the club, which could be coming to a swift end in a few weeks' time, if Romero's report is accurate. The addition of de Jong would be a massive coup for United, who could use a talent like him in the midfielder.
