Barcelona superstar defender Gerard Pique has found himself in the middle of a major controversy involving his pop-star wife, Shakira. According to various reports, the power couple have split up after the pop icon caught the Barcelona star in the act of cheating. The reports indicate that Pique has been living alone in his apartment in Barcelona for a few weeks since the incident and that the pair will officially separate at some point in the near future.
The reports initially stem from claims made by El Periodico's Emilio Perez de Rojas, who alleged the couple have been living separately for at least a few weeks. The journalist alleges that Pique has moved out of the couple's shared residency into his own apartment following the cheating scandal, during which Shakira reportedly discovered her long-time partner in bed with another woman.
At this point, these are nothing more than rumors, but they are certainly damning. Additional reports from the ‘Mammarazzi' podcast, hosted by Lauren Fa and Lorena Vazquez, were shared via Instagram. That report suggests Pique is a big partier who loves the nightlife, claiming the 35-year-old was a regular a various hot nightclubs in Barcelona. The report also suggests the decision to split is coming from Shakira.
Pique has played 14 seasons at Barcelona and is set to enter Year 15 at Camp Nou. Last season, he featured in 41 games across all competitions, including 27 matches in La Liga, where Barcelona placed second.
Shakira and Pique have been dating for more than a decade but the couple never officially married. They have two children together, boys Milan and Sasha.
