Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski is set to become a free agent in 2023, but he's either hoping for a new extension by this summer or for the club to let him leave altogether.

Following Bayern's 1-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić made it very clear that the title-holders are keen on keeping Lewandowski, who broke the Bundesliga scoring record last term.

Via Fabrizio Romano:

As you can see, Lewandowski wasn't exactly aware of Bayern's desire to extend him. After all, he's arguably the most lethal finisher in world football and a massive part of Julian Nagelsmann's side each and every week. The Polish international has already netted 28 league goals this season.

Several Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in the Ballon d'Or runner-up, including Chelsea and Manchester City. But, it's clear that Lewa wants to stay at Bayern, it's just a matter of them putting a new contract on the table. The Bavarians currently have a nine-point cushion at the top of the Bundesliga table and are one of several favorites to win the Champions League. Lewandowski has also scored nine goals in Europe.

Bayern would be foolish to sell him in the coming months, but the ball is evidently in their court.
