The Chicago Bears released a statement on Thursday announcing the bid to purchase Arlington Park, which could be the new home if they end up leaving Soldier Field. After the announcement, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot released a statement, ripping the Bears apart and calling it a “tactic,” according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

“…this announcement from the Bears comes in the midst of negotiations for improvements at Soldier Field. This is clearly a negotiating tactic that the Bears have used before…Like most Bears fans, we want the organization to focus on putting a winning team on the field, beating the Packers finally and being relevant past October. Everything else is noise.”

A harsh statement from the Mayor who doesn't want to lose the Bears location in the downtown area. Arlington Park is 30 miles from Soldier Field and could severely impact a lot of aspects, although they are free to do as they wish.

The comments about the team being relevant are interesting, considering the Bears did make the playoffs this past season and are projected to be better after drafting Justin Fields to be the quarterback of the future in the Windy City.

If the team is using this as a tactic, hopefully it works. As for their results on the football field, the season can't come quick enough, despite Matt Nagy's insistence on having Andy Dalton as the starting quarterback.
