According to reporting from Jeff Dickerson of ESPN, Nick Foles will be at a “disadvantage” in the Chicago Bears quarterback competition, which will feature incumbent starter Mitchell Trubisky and seven-year veteran Tyler Bray.

Dickerson’s full quote can be seen here:

“It’s more of a disadvantage not having what he could have had … more specifically, the timing with the wide receivers that you get in OTAs where you can run route after route after route. You get to see and feel how guys time up their motions, so for sure that will be a disadvantage.”

Foles has had a fascinating career. After being drafted 88th overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2012 NFL Draft, Foles was a spot starter for the team before bouncing between the Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs before famously returning to the Eagles for the triumphant 2017 season. He would go on to lead the team to a Super Bowl win due to an injured Carson Wentz.

In 2019, with that fateful Super Bowl win a fond memory, Foles was signed to a four-year, $88 million deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, he only played four games with the team before fracturing his clavicle and missing the rest of the season.

During his stint in Jacksonville, he went 0-4, so it seems the team will not miss him. The Jaguars would go on to trade Foles during the offseason to the Bears.

In Chicago, the Bears seem to be ready to move on from third-year QB Mitchell Trubisky, who has underwhelmed during his three seasons under center for the team.
