The Chicago Bears made quite a splash with the addition of former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Robert Quinn. It seems that the opportunity to form an edge-rushing duo with Khalil Mack was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

According to Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic, Quinn is looking forward to taking advantage of the attention Mack draws:

“He’s probably gonna get the double-teams or more attention,” Quinn said. “Hopefully that frees me up a little bit and I can take advantage.”

It is safe to say that this is exactly what the Bears had in mind when they signed Quinn in free agency. He will essentially be filling the void left by outside linebacker Leonard Floyd after signing with his replacement's former team in the Los Angeles Rams.

There is certainly good reason for Quinn to be optimistic about putting up big numbers in the 2020 NFL season. He enjoyed quite the resurgence after finishing the 2019 campaign with 1.5 sacks, the second-highest total of his career. He also tacked on 34 tackles, two forced fumbles, and two pass defenses before signing a lucrative five-year, $70 million contract with Chicago in free agency.

Quinn can expect plenty of more opportunities to take on single coverage with Mack on the opposite end. After all, this is one of the few perks that comes with playing alongside one of the NFL's elite pass-rushers. The onus will fall on the veteran to make sure he provides the Bears with plenty of bang for their buck.
