It's the end of an era in Chicago. No, the Bears aren't trading away their young quarterback Justin Fields. It has something to do, however, with another quarterback of theirs: the master of the Philly Special, Nick Foles.

After the Bears wrapped up their 2022 NFL Draft, GM Ryan Poles has agreed to release Nick Foles from the team after failing to find a trade for him. Foles will now be a free agent and will start looking for a new team for the next season. (via Mike Garofolo)

Foles was the third-string quarterback for the Bears last season behind Fields and Andy Dalton. After the team signed Trevor Siemien, Foles likely felt that he wouldn't be able to see much time on the field, and so he asked out of the team. Poles, the new general manager obliged him and allowed him to walk.

Nick Foles is remembered by most fans for his role for the Philadelphia Eagles' magical Super Bowl run in 2017. The ex-Bears quarterback filled in for an injured Carson Wentz and succeeded, leading Philly to a win against the New England Patriots. In particular, one of their trick plays, the “Philly Special”, has gained popularity amongst fans.

As for the Bears, they are entering in a new era led by coach Matt Eberflus and GM Ryan Poles. They are banking on Justin Fields to be their quarterback of the future, and we've already heard encouraging signs from the team regarding their QB. Foles' presence will be sorely missed in the quarterback room, though, as he brings veteran experience to this team.
