Hue Jackson did not take long to get another job in the league. Just a couple weeks after he was fired as head coach of the Cleveland Browns, Jackson has been named as a Special Assistant to the Head Coach, Marvin Lewis, per the team’s official website.

“I have a great comfort level with Hue and his ability to assist me with the day-to-day responsibilities on defense, including analyzing our opponents and helping me on game days with the players and defensive coaches,” Marvin Lewis said in a statement.

Jackson also said he’s pleased for the opportunity to join the Bengals and that he’s looking forward to helping the team finish the season strong.

This will be Jackson’s third stint with the Bengals. He started off as a wide receivers coach in 2004-06 before moving on to other teams. He returned in 2012 after getting fired as head coach of the Oakland Raiders and worked himself up to offensive coordinator before leaving to take the Browns job in 2016.

Lewis will be preoccupied with handling the team’s defense moving forward after firing defensive coordinator Teryl Austin. With Jackson’s inclination toward offense, his arrival could see him collaborate with offensive coordinator Bill Lazor to take care of that side of the ball as Lewis focuses more on the defense. That Bengals offense will be without star wide receiver A.J. Green for the next few weeks as he deals with a foot injury.

Jackson will now help Lewis and the Bengals prepare for their upcoming matchup against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
