Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen suffered a devastating hit against the New England Patriots in Week 4. It appears to have even spurred some advice from Hall of fame quarterback Brett Favre.

Allen is now in concussion protocol after attempting to run for a first down. According to Tim Graham of The Athletic, Favre suggested that he should what he can to take less hits during games:

“From a coach’s standpoint, they’re going to have to demand that he not play as reckless as he has,” Favre said.

“What I would tell him, from a physical standpoint is, ‘Hey, Josh. I get it. I see you diving and running over people. I was that guy, too. But listen, man. Take it from a guy who’s played a long time and learned maybe later than I should’ve, there’s a time and place when you try for extra yards. That wasn’t it. You’ve got to be smarter.’

“Now, he’ll say, ‘You’re right, Brett. I know.’ But it may take a few more hits before he goes, ‘You know, Brett really is right.’ ”

There are few players in NFL history with more experience on the matter than Favre. He was regarded as the premier gunslinger of his generation and had no problems putting his body on the line to make a play happen. Of course, this approach clearly led to some serious wear and tear for him during the final stretch of his career.

Like Favre, Allen has all the physical tools to play under center such as a cannon arm and surprising mobility. Unfortunately, this can sometimes backfire since they allow themselves to be more prone to injury by taking unnecessary hits. the challenge then lies in trying to decipher when and where are the best times to put their head down.

The Bills made quite the investment in Allen when they traded up to take him with the seventh overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

He will certainly need to start doing his part to stay healthy so he can remain available for this team as long as possible.
