The Buffalo Bills have a number of voids to fill this offseason. Fortunately, they managed to secure some depth up front with the signing of defensive tackle Jordan Phillips.

Phillips had arrived in Buffalo after being claimed off waivers last season. According to Ryan Talbot of NYUp.com, he will be around for the 2019 NFL season.

Jordan Phillips' deal with the Bills is for one-year, per source.

The Bills lost beloved defensive tackle Kyle Williams to retirement this offseason. Although his presence will be sorely missed, Buffalo has already gotten a head start on shoring up their depth up front. It appears the one-year deal could dictate his long-term future in Buffalo.

Phillips had initially been selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. Although he had been the starter at the beginning of the 2018 campaign in Miami, his playing time started to dwindle and he was ultimately waived in early October. He finished the season with 19 tackles, three passes defended, and a fumble recovery in 12 games.

Phillips will now be part of a rotation that includes defensive tackles Harrison Phillips, Star Lotulelei, Kyle Peko, and Robert Thomas. This will undoubtedly be a deciding year for Phillips. With Williams gone, the Bills will be looking for someone else to serve as the anchor of the defense. It appears Buffalo is planning to rely heavily on their depth up front moving forward to help fill the void. Phillips will need to have a big year if he hopes to find more long-term security next offseason.
