Buffalo Bills veteran free safety Jordan Poyer has more faith than skeptics of his team would possess. With a 2-0 start on the early 2019 NFL regular season, the Bills are in good position to make damage the rest of the way and eventually earn a Wild Card spot in the 2019-20 playoffs.

Per Matthew Fairburn in The Athletic, the 28-year-old Poyer says the Bills are buying into the “underdog” mentality (despite being slight favorites in their Week 2 matchup against the New York Giants):

“I’ll tell you right now, the guys in the locker room believed that everyone else picked the Giants to win the game,” safety Jordan Poyer said. “Our mindset each week is that we are the underdog. I don’t think a lot of guys are really looking into who people are picking to win games. When it is obvious things come out that 12 people picked the opposing team, we obviously see that type of stuff. The type of guys that are in this room it doesn’t matter if we’re the underdog or the favorites and it’s not going to phase us. It’s just the type of team that we are. We’re going to go out there and play like we’re the underdogs. It’s Buffalo, New York. We’re 2-0 and I guarantee a lot of people still aren’t going to be talking about us.”

Poyer arrived in Buffalo after a four-year stint with the Cleveland Browns. Initially entering the league as a 2013 seventh-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Browns claimed the then-rookie defensive back off of waivers midseason.

Poyer recorded two interceptions and 113 combined sacks in his three-plus seasons as a member of the Browns. He signed a four-year, $13 million with the Bills in the offseason prior to the 2017 season, though.
