The third game of the preseason is seen as a crucial week for the starters to get their final taste of real action before the start of the 2019 NFL season. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is looking forward to making the most of his time against the Detroit Lions on Friday.

The Bills have not been hesitant to fully utilize Allen in his limited snaps through the first two preseason games. According to Nate Mendelson of the team's official website, he feels the live reps have only further helped with his development.

“I wouldn’t say that I’m at any point that I need to be at all,” Allen said. “There’s still a lot of work that I got to do and continue getting better. The team’s getting better and I’m getting better. That’s all I can ask for, really.”

“There’s nothing like live reps,” Allen said. “I appreciate what he’s doing and how he’s helped me progress along so far. We’re working to become the best version of ourselves that we can every day.”

The Bills made quite the investment when they took Allen with the seventh overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Although head coach Sean McDermott indicated that they wanted to take a patient approach with his progression, he quickly was inserted as the starter due to the lackluster play under center from Nathan Peterman.

There is no denying what Allen is capable of bringing to the table. Not only does he boast a cannon of an arm, but he took the league by storm with his running ability last season. Regardless, he still has a long way to go when it comes to reading the defense and delivering accurate throws.

Of course, this is all the more reason for Allen to get ample playing time against the Lions this week. Despite some of the benefits that come with having the second-year quarterback get some quality reps, the Bills' primary focus is to ensure that he makes it to the regular season as healthy as possible.
