The Buffalo Bills don't have a very typical backfield, as they boast 31-year-old LeSean McCoy and 36-year-old Frank Gore as their top two running backs.

In a league where halfbacks are generally past their prime once they hit the age of 30, you can imagine that there are plenty of reservations about the Bills' ground game heading into next season.

However, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott thinks things will be just fine, saying that the two veterans will complement each other well:

“I just think what better way to challenge one another with a guy for LeSean that’s been there and done that and done a lot of the things LeSean’s done at a high level,” McDermott said of the McCoy-Gore tandem, according to Jeremy Bergman of NFL.com. “I think iron’s gonna sharpen iron in that situation.”

McCoy and Gore may have the most combined career rushing yards of any other teammates in NFL history, but the problem is, most of that production came earlier in their careers when they were sprier and healthier.

McCoy is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played 14 games and rushed for a career-low 514 yards and three touchdowns, averaging a meager 3.2 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Gore also appeared in 14 contests and saw his season end due to a foot injury.

During the time he was on the field, he totaled 722 yards but did not score a touchdown, marking the first time in his 14-year NFL career that he did not reach the end zone.
