Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback Josh Allen will not play in the team’s Week 7 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts and could potentially miss several weeks more due to an elbow injury, per Dianna Russini of ESPN.

Allen exited the Bills’ loss to the Houston Texans after an injury to the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, it is not considered a major injury, but he is still set to get a second opinion.

Russini adds that the Bills have not yet decided who will start at quarterback in Allen’s place. Although, the feeling is that Derek Anderson, who has only been with the team for over a week, has to start over Nathan Peterman.

Peterman had another poor outing when he replaced Allen against the Texans. He completed half of his 12 attempts for 61 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Head coach Sean McDermott risks losing the locker room if he decides to go with him again.

Allen, the No. 7 overall pick in this year’s draft, has had a challenging start to his NFL career. Through six games (five starts), he’s completing just 54 percent of his passes for 832 yards with two touchdowns and five interceptions. He’s also been sacked 21 times, which is currently second among quarterbacks behind only Deshaun Watson.

At 2-4, the Bills clearly aren’t going anywhere this season. They would be wise to keep Allen sidelined until he is 100 percent healthy again since there’s absolutely no need to take any risks with their prized rookie.
