Former Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum was surprisingly dealt to the New Orleans Pelicans ahead of the trade deadline. There were rumors about McCollum possibly being the subject of trade talks around the league, though it was still an unexpected sight to see the longtime Blazers guard heading out the door. In a piece for the Player's Tribune titled “Dear Portland”, McCollum detailed the final moments before his trade to the Pelicans.

And Dame was just looking at me like, “Oh damn, is this it? Is it really happening?”

We had been talking about the trade rumors for so long that it was almost like a joke to us, you know? It was like we’d talk around it, because it was just too much. It wouldn’t sink in.

I’m like, “Hold on, lemme see what’s going on. I might be right back.”

I went out into the hallway, and my agent told me that things were coming together with New Orleans, but that it wasn’t a done deal yet. He told me to hold tight. So I walked back in the locker room like, “Not yet!!! I’m still here, bro!!”

Wolf of Wall Street style, you know? LEO. “I’m not f***in’ leavin’!!!! The show goes on!!!”

We were laughing, because what else can you do?

Former Blazers guard CJ McCollum said he was with Damian Lillard when he got a phone call from his agent saying that trade talks were progressing with the Pelicans. McCollum then told Lillard “he might be back”, before coming back and telling his longtime teammate “not yet!”

It's sad that things had to come to an end for McCollum with the Blazers, though he and Lillard made the most of their final moments together before the Pelicans trade.
