Damian Lillard stepped up in a major way against the Los Angeles Lakers on the road, giving his Portland Trail Blazers a seventh straight win despite a turbulent end to the fourth quarter.

The Oakland native poured in 19 of his game-high 39 points in the fourth; best known as “Lillard time” — managing to be just enough to survive two missed free throws in the clutch by his backcourt mate C.J. McCollum, including a hapless foul that got the Lakers within striking range.

“I don’t know if it’s a psychological weapon for me. I’ve said this many times, Damian is one of those guys who can will things to happen,” said head coach Terry Stotts, per Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints.

“He can will a win, that’s what great players do… their will is as strong as their talent.”

Lillard drilled four straight 3-pointers late in the game and went 5-of-6 from the free throw line to propel a late rally for the Blazers, which ultimately edged the Lakers 108-103, sealed by yet another missed free throw from Isaiah Thomas and a timely block by Shabazz Napier.

The Blazers are holding onto the third spot in the Western Conference standings, one they nabbed by stringing together this seven-game win streak while other above them struggled to keep winning, as the race between the third and eighth place in the West is only separated by 2.5 games.

Portland's 35-23 fourth quarter was largely aided by Stotts' psychological weapon, who has proven to be every bit of All-Star worthy for this team throughout the season.
