All eyes were on George Springer during the Toronto Blue Jays' visit to the Bronx against the New York Yankees Monday night for the start of a four-game series at Yankee Stadium. And just what everybody expected, Springer got rained by boos from New York fans who clearly have not forgotten his time with the Houston Astros who won the World Series in 2017 before being found guilty for sign stealing.

Nevertheless, Springer and the Blue Jays got the last laugh in the game, as Toronto shut out the Yankees in a 3-0 victory. If Springer was affected by the treatment he received from Yankees fans, he surely did a good job of hiding it, as he went 3 of 5, driving all runs scored by the Blue Jays.

After the game, Springer talked about blocking the noise and focusing on his game.

Fans booed Springer before and during each at-bat, and he finished a triple short of the cycle in the leadoff spot. No. 9 batter Santiago Espinal had three singles for the Blue Jays.

“I’m concentrating on the stuff that I can control, which is the swings and all that stuff,” Springer said.

Springer will have to maintain that attitude going forward, with the Blue Jays still to play three more games at Yankee Stadium in the series.
