The Toronto Blue Jays take on the Milwaukee Brewers. Our MLB odds series has our Blue Jays Brewers prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Blue Jays Brewers.

The Toronto Blue Jays are trying to swim uphill. They are trying to get to .500 and then rise above the break-even mark. This is not where they expected to be over two months into the 2024 MLB season. They're far behind the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles in the American League East. They are in a position where the best they can possibly hope for is the third and final American League wild card berth, the sixth and final playoff spot in the American League. The division title is not a realistic goal. The first or second wild card berths are not realistic goals. The Jays face a narrow playoff path, a very alarming turn of events for a franchise which expected to be good this year, but isn't.

The only good thing for Toronto is that the Minnesota Twins, Houston Astros, Tampa Bay Rays, and Texas Rangers — four playoff teams from 2023 — have not played well. This has kept the Jays in the hunt for that final wild card spot. As bad as Toronto has been, a playoff berth is within reach, but Toronto has to start getting elite-level hitting from the players who are supposed to be stars, but aren't playing like it. Vladimir Guerrero, Bo Bichette, and George Springer are all falling well short of expectations in a year when they all needed (and still need) to be good for Toronto to have a real chance at the postseason. If those three guys plus some relievers can improve, the Jays could rescue their season, but we're one month before the All-Star break, and the urgency of the moment is getting more intense.

Why The Blue Jays Could Cover The Spread

Toronto's starting pitcher is Jose Berrios, who — through two months of starts in 2024 — is performing at an elite level. Among American League starting pitchers, Berrios deserves to be placed in the top tier. He's not the Cy Young leader, but he is in the conversation due to very consistent work. Berrios is pitching like a staff ace, and that is the foremost reason why Toronto can and will cover the spread in this game.

Why The Brewers Could Cover The Spread

The Jays might have Berrios, but the Brewers have the much better team and the much better offense. The Brewers have been one of the pleasant surprises of the season, given that they lost Corbin Burnes and Devin Williams and have succeeded anyway. They have a solid lead atop the National League Central and are one of just four National League teams which has a good win-loss record through two months of play. Milwaukee's offense has overachieved, and that could be enough to beat Jose Berrios in this game.

Final Blue Jays-Brewers Prediction & Pick

The Brewers are the better team, but the Jays have their in-form ace on the mound. Stay away from this one; it feels very coin-flippy.

Final Blue Jays-Brewers Prediction & Pick: Brewers +1.5
