The St. Louis Blues have been one of the best teams in the western conference all season. But the conference is so tightly packed, a losing streak could be the difference between making or missing the postseason. Well, if the Blues are going to try and make another run at a Stanley Cup, they will fight their way into the postseason without one of their best defenseman.

On Tuesday night, Blues defenseman Torey Krug sustained an upper-body injury during the second period of a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals. Krug is reportedly now listed as week-to-week with the injury.

Prior to Thursday's game, Blues head coach Craig Berube addressed the media concerning the injury, captured by NHL.com.

“It's really tough. Valuable player for us… It is what it is, but it is a tough loss for sure. It didn't look like much, but obviously it is.”

Krug's fellow defenseman Colton Parayko chimed in as well. “He's a good player, big part of our defense… I guess we do what we've done all year, next man in. I think obviously down the stretch, we've got a lot of games. There will be a lot of maintenance for us all. But tough to lose Krug obviously, to have a player that brings a lot of value to our team. Tough to see.”

Krug is the best offensive defenseman on the Blues. He leads all St. Louis defenseman with 35 points, and is tied with Justin Faulk with eight goals. His presence might be missed even more on the power play, as Krug has 14 odd-man assists this year. That's the most on the team, including forwards.
