The Denver Broncos are currently a highly beneficial spot in this year's draft holding the fifth overall selection that should allow them to bring aboard a promising talent. Much of that chatter has surrounded the potential of taking a quarterback at the pick.

What has made that matter interesting is that the team had inked quarterback Case Keenum to a two-year, $36 million deal in free agency to be the starter for the 2018 campaign and possibly further. Despite the scenario of another quarterback coming aboard, Keenum has voiced that he would welcome the additional competition at the position this offseason, according to Mike Klis of 9News.

“Well, it’s not my decision,’’ Keenum said in an interview with 9NEWS. “It’s not. It really doesn’t matter what I want. But I know the guys upstairs. And I trust those guys. They’re bringing in exactly who they need to bring in in the draft and then afterwards to try and make this team the best team it can be.

“For me, I always love competition. Nothing’s ever been handed to me. I know whoever comes in here is going to be somebody who can add to our team and make our team better.’’

Keenum's comments may open the door even further to the possibility that general manager John Elway will decide to take a quarterback who could wind being the long-term answer. It shouldn't come as much of a surprise given that he had only inked a two-year deal, which in essence could be a “prove-it” type of deal for him in Denver that he can lead the team to success like he did with the Minnesota Vikings.

At that same token, the Broncos wouldn't have given him that type of deal if they didn't believe he can accomplish a similar path to success over the next couple of seasons. It may be just too difficult for the front office to pass up the opportunity to bring in one of the top quarterbacks in this year's draft, which they have held visits and workouts with each of the top four projected players at the position in USC's Sam Darnold, UCLA's Josh Rosen, Wyoming's Josh Allen, and Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield.

This could all have the billing of Denver heading this direction that may just have been further cemented with Keenum embracing the potential competition at the position ahead. Regardless of what happens, the 30-year-old is ready to step it up once again.
