The Denver Broncos didn't envision standing at 0-4 this season. Despite the early-season struggles, an NFL insider says John Elway can't emphasize the future too much.

“I think John is in an interesting situation and I wouldn’t sell the theory of, well, we are going for the future,” another exec said. “I think that would be bad for the team and it would be bad for the Denver fan base. You would piss off certain vets and it would be hard on the new coach.”

When Elway acquired Joe Flacco this offseason, he believed that the veteran quarterback would be able to uplift the team to being playoff contenders once again. Instead, the fans in Denver are already looking ahead to next year after losing four straight games.

As bad as the situation seems to be, Elway has to be able to keep the players motivated for this season. It will also be up to Vic Fangio to rally the locker room together before the season gets completely out of hand.

To make matters worse, Bradley Chubb was ruled out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL on Monday. However, there are some positives for a winless Broncos team this season.

Through four weeks, Denver has lost all four games by a combined 23 points. On top of that, they have lost two games by a combined four points—including Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Therefore, the Broncos could've easily been 2-2 instead of 0-4 this season. With that in mind, Elway has to try to keep the team focused on this season despite the slow start.
