The Denver Broncos entered the offseason with a glaring void under center. After initially striking out on the Kirk cousins Sweepstakes, Denver finally found their man in former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Case Keenum.

Keenum's signing has undoubtedly filled a massive hole in the offense. However, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, the Broncos still have not ruled out the prospect of taking a quarterback with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft:

“We have a lot of opportunities at No. 5 now,” Elway said, via quotes distributed by the team. “We’re in good spots there. We’re high in a lot of rounds, so it’s going to be important to find guys who are going to help our football team.”

General Manager John Elway was in attendance for the Pro Day's of Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield and UCLA's Josh Rosen. Meanwhile, Denver is still scheduled to meet privately with USC's Sam Darnold.

Regardless, Elway added that quarterback Paxton Lynch will be the team's backup as of right now.

“Paxton is still young,” Elway said. “We still have high hopes for Paxton. He’s a young guy that is talented. He’s been here for two years and had a tough year last year with the injuries and everything, but we still have high hopes for Paxton to come in here and compete and continue to grow as a quarterback. That is the expectation for Paxton.”

It should come as no surprise to see Elway is sticking with Lynch in the lineup. The former Memphis Tiger was seen as a bit of a project player coming out of college. Denver decided to pull the trigger anyways by taking him with the 26th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Needless to say, Paxton Lynch has largely underwhelmed since then after throwing for 792 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions in five games. However, it seems he still has a powerful believer in Elway, who may be looking to see how well he develops by the end of Keenum's deal.
