Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay will undergo an MRI on his injured right wrist, which he suffered on Monday night against the Oakland Raiders, per Aric DiLalla of the team’s official website.

But even with the Broncos having nothing left to play for, Lindsay remains hopeful he will be able to play in the team’s season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers.

“I’m a tough dude and I’m going to do it for my team,” Lindsay said, via the team’s website. “If I can play, I’m going to play. Like I said, I can’t tell you anything else right now, because I don’t even know. So I’m going to go back tomorrow and go get looked at.”

Lindsay suffered the injury in the third quarter against the Raiders Oakland Raiders when his wrist got bent backward as he was hit by Raiders’ safety Erik Harris helmet. Lindsay left the game and did not return, finishing with 46 yards on 10 carries.

Regardless of whether he plays in Week 17, Lindsay has had quite a remarkable rookie campaign. He currently has 1,037 rushing yards and became the first undrafted offensive rookie ever selected to the Pro Bowl.

If he does play next week, though, Lindsay could potentially make another piece of history. He’s 67 yards away from overtaking Dominic Rhodes for the most ever rushing yards by an undrafted rookie.

But while Lindsay will be eager to get a chance to break that record, the Broncos will likely err on the side of caution with their prized rookie if there’s even a chance that his injury could be aggravated if he plays.
