Major props to whoever runs the Denver Broncos' social media accounts. They tweeted this shortly after Russell Wilson's trade from the Seattle Seahawks to the Broncos was announced.

The GIF is a clip from the film “Cast Away.” The well-known 2000 classic depicts Tom Hanks as Chuck Noland, a man stranded on a deserted island. His only companion on the island is “Wilson,” the volleyball he named and personified.

Clearly, the Broncos are excited to have their own Wilson coming to Denver. The team traded quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant, defensive lineman Shelby Harris, two first-round picks, two second-round picks, and a fifth-round pick. All of that is headed to the Seattle Seahawks. Meanwhile, the Broncos receive Wilson and a fourth-round pick.

Like Wilson the volleyball was to Noland, Russell should be a glimmer of hope for the Broncos as they head into the 2022-2023 NFL season. The team finished last in the AFC West with a losing record of 7-10. Denver's starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater recorded 3,052 passing yards and 18 touchdowns in 14 games before suffering a season-ending injury. Meanwhile, Wilson threw for 3,113 yards and 25 touchdowns in the same amount of time.

Wilson suffered a serious finger injury that required surgery at the beginning of the season. Fortunately, he is fully recovered and should have no problem passing the physical required to complete the pending trade.
