The Denver Broncos went from finishing last in the AFC West to becoming Super Bowl contenders, seemingly overnight. That's because of the massive trade that sent future Hall of Fame QB Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks to the Broncos this offseason.

Everyone knew that Wilson would be an immediate upgrade to the Broncos offense. After all, they were playing Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock last season. But what many did not expect was the impact that Wilson could have on Denver defensively.

Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II detailed exactly how much he has helped him personally.

“It helps me a lot, going against premier talent like that with a great quarterback and great perimeter players,” Surtain said, via the team’s website. “That helps me as a player and build on my game. It’s always great going against them.”

Surtain II is coming off a stellar rookie season in 2021 for the Broncos. He was easily one of the best cover corners in football and earned some chatter regarding an All-Pro bid. Despite not quite making the cut, Surtain II showed he has a bright future in the NFL.

To his point, being able to practice against a quarterback as accurate and as smart as Wilson is, surely can only help Denver's secondary.

Last season, the Broncos were already one of the better defenses in the NFL. They added edge rusher Randy Gregory to help the pass rush. But playing in the AFC West is going to be difficult, as all four teams could be considered favored to win the division.
