Vic Fangio's future as head coach of the Denver Broncos isn't particularly clear, especially after failing to steer the team to a win in their regular-season finale Saturday night. Denver gave the Kansas City Chiefs a run for their money but failed to complete the job in a 28-24 home loss to Patrick Mahomes and company, in part because Fangio decided to go for a field goal despite being down by four late in the game.

The Broncos had a shot at tying the score or even taking the lead in the penultimate drive of the game, but on a fourth-and-down situation with over four minutes remaining in regulation, Fangio elected to go for a kick, a decision that didn't sit well with many Denver fans

Fangio would later explain the reasoning behind that decision, saying that he trusted the Broncos' stop unit to make a crucial stop and leave the team with just enough time to go for a game-winning drive.

It didn't pan out that way Vangio and the Broncos would have wanted to, though, as the Chiefs made sure that Denver would not get the ball back. Denver looked like it was about to force the Chiefs to punt the ball when Kansas City got faced by a third-and-8 with a little over two minutes left, but Mahomes squashed any hopes of the Broncos to get one more shot when he connected with Travis Kelce for a 12-yard gain to essentially seal the game and bag the victory.
