Drew Lock got his first career NFL start on Sunday, and the Denver Broncos came away with a win, defeating the Los Angeles Chargers by a score of 23-20.

Lock completed 18 of his 28 throws for 134 yards, a couple of touchdowns and an interception, the type of stat line you would expect from a rookie quarterback starting for the first time.

Afterward, Broncos head coach Vic Fangio, who is typically reserved in complimenting his players, had some positive words to say about his first-year signal-caller.

“I think it was a good start for him,” Fangio said, via the Broncos' team website. “Did we light up the scoreboard? No. Did we get a ton of first downs? No. I think we only had 11 first downs or something like that. We got some short fields, which helped us get some points, but I think there’s promise there. I really do. I’m just not ready to put him in Canton yet. I think it was a great start for him, something that he can build upon because obviously we didn’t light up the scoreboard or have a ton of yards and first downs, but I think in many, many ways it’s probably a good way for him to start [because] of the fact that we got the win and there’s still a lot of room for improvement.”

Denver selected Lock, who played his collegiate football at the University of Missouri, in the second round (42nd pick overall) of the NFL Draft back in April.

He then suffered a preseason thumb injury that landed him on the injured reserve list, but with Joe Flacco out for the season and Brandon Allen not factoring into the club's future, the Broncos activated Lock ahead of their matchup with the Chargers, and Lock delivered a win.

Perhaps Denver finally has a quarterback for the first time since Peyton Manning.
