The Cleveland Browns have placed linebacker Christian Kirksey on the injured reserve list due to a chest injury, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Kirksey suffered the injury during his team's win over the New York Jets last Monday. In two games on the season, he logged 11 tackles.

This marks the second year in a row Kirksey hit the injured reserve list, as he was also placed on injured reserve last season due to a hamstring injury. He played seven games in 2018, totaling 43 tackles, a couple of interceptions, a fumble recovery and five passes defended.

Kirksey, who played his collegiate football at the University of Iowa, was originally selected by the Browns in the third round (71st pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He appeared in all 16 contests during his rookie campaign, finishing with 81 tackles, a pair of sacks and a forced fumble. Then, the following year, he registered 53 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery before breaking out during his third season when he racked up 143 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Kirksey posted similar numbers in his fourth season in 2017, recording 138 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and five passes defended.

Up until the aforementioned hamstring injury knocked him out after just seven games last season, Kirksey had never missed a game.

This is just the latest injury in what has been a slew of them for Cleveland, as tight end David Njoku was also placed on injured reserve due to a wrist injury, and safety Damarious Randall is recovering from a concussion.
