Cleveland Browns wide receiver Corey Coleman is entering his third year in the NFL, and as a former first-round pick the expectations are high on him. Coleman has dealt with injuries and has had to try to get on the same page with quarterback after quarterback after quarterback.

Coleman isn't making excuses for what has happened the first two years and knows that he needs to take a big step forward this season.

“Time to take a big step,” Coleman said Thursday before the first practice of training camp via the Akron Beacon Journal. “I feel like it’s important.”

The Browns brought in Jarvis Landry this offseason to add to the wide receiver room, and Coleman knows if he doesn't perform this year, more changes will probably be made.

“If I don’t do what I’ve got to do, changes [are] going to be made,” Coleman said. “I don’t know what type of changes, but some need to be made.”

Browns coach Hue Jackson knows that Coleman has had some tough breaks but has high hopes and wants everyone to give him a chance to prove himself this season.

“Corey has had some tough breaks,” coach Hue Jackson said. “Obviously, when you are a first-round pick, a lot is expected from you, and I think he wants to do that as well as anybody, but we can’t talk about the past. He is out here today. Let’s give this man an opportunity to see what he brings to the table this year and if he can be the type of player we think he can be.”

The Browns need to have Coleman to have a big season, especially with Josh Gordon now being an uncertainty. Coleman knows this and is ready to have his big breakout year.
