Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku missed Monday's practice due to a knee injury, according to Nate Ulrich of The Akron Beach Journal.

Njoku is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played all 16 games and hauled in 56 receptions for 639 yards and four touchdowns.

The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami, was originally selected by the Browns in the first round (29th pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He appeared in all 16 contests during his rookie season, catching 32 passes for 386 yards and four scores.

Njoku is considered by many to be a potential breakout candidate heading into 2019, as his combination of size and athletic ability is something few other tight ends in the league possess.

Of course, whether or not he gets enough targets to make that happen is a question, as he is playing on an offense that also houses Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry in the receiving corps and Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt (the latter of which is serving an eight-game suspension) out of the backfield.

Plus, wide receivers Rashard Higgins and Antonio Callaway (the latter of which was recently hit with a four-game ban) are no slouches, either.

Still, so long as Njoku remains healthy, he could be in for a big year this coming season.

Meanwhile, the Browns went 7-8-1 in 2018, marking their best finish since winning 10 games all the way back in 2007.

Cleveland has not made the playoffs since the 2002-03 campaign, marking the longest active postseason drought in the NFL.
