The Cleveland Browns drafted David Njoku with the 29th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Before going to the Browns, Njoku believed he'd be playing with Odell Beckham Jr.—but on the New York Giants.

During the draft process in 2017, Njoku thought the Giants would draft him with the 23rd overall pick in the draft. Instead, the Giants selected Evan Engram to be their starting tight end for the future.

“Yeah, during the draft process I was thinking maybe they were going to pick me. They picked who they picked. I’m happy for them. Evan and I are friends. He’s a great athlete as well, with tremendous speed.”

Of course, so far in their careers, Engram has been the better tight end with 109 receptions, 1,299 yards, and nine touchdowns. In comparison, Njoku has 88 receptions for 1,025 yards and eight touchdowns in two seasons.

After thinking he'd play alongside Beckham Jr. in New York, Njoku will get the opportunity to do so with the Browns in 2019. The Browns were able to acquire Beckham Jr. from the Giants in a blockbuster trade that shook up the whole NFL.

With Beckham Jr. gone in New York, Engram will likely have a larger role in the Giants' passing attack. As for Njoku, he is one of many weapons in the Cleveland passing offense and will be fighting for targets with a plethora of guys.

The Browns tight end also will be key to the Browns making the jump from being a losing franchise to a Super Bowl contender in 2019. People always love hypotheticals and it's crazy to think if things would be different if the Giants drafted Njoku over Engram in 2017.
