The Cleveland Browns wasted absolutely no time making a major change after Sunday afternoon's loss to the rival Cincinnati Bengals. According to an official statement released by the struggling AFC North franchise, the Browns have elected to part ways with head coach Freddie Kitchens.

The team's ownership group just didn't see how it would be possible to continue to improve under the direction of Kitchens, who was notably in the midst of just his first season as the Browns full-time head coach.

“We thank Freddie for his hard work and commitment to this organization but did not see the success or opportunities for improvement to move forward with him as our head coach,” the Haslams said, via the team's official website. “Our focus is on hiring an exceptional leader for this football team and we will take a comprehensive approach to this process. We are excited about the core players we have to build around and develop and we look forward to bringing in a strong head coach that will put this group of players in the best position to succeed.”

Browns general manager John Dorsey, who will continue to serve in such a role, also released a statement of his own on Sunday evening.

“I would like to thank Freddie for his dedication and efforts this past season. We are disappointed in our results and feel a change is necessary. Freddie is a good man and good football coach. We wish he and his family nothing but success,” Dorsey added, via the team's official website.

Despite receiving serious recognition this past offseason, which even included some Super Bowl aspirations, the Browns finished with yet another losing record in 2019-20.
