Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt had marijuana possession charges levied by the Rocky River Police Department in Ohio dropped on Monday, authorities announced.
Hunt, a 24-year-old pending free agent rusher, spent the 2019 campaign with the Browns after the Kansas City Chiefs released the one-time Pro Bowl running back in Nov. 2018 stemming from an assault caught on tape. The Toledo product was also suspended for the first eight games of the season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy connected to the domestic violence allegation.
Hunt was pulled over by Rocky River police on Jan. 21 with authorities finding marijuana. The running back will not be charged for possession, however, via ProFootballTalk:
“We will not be pursuing charges of marijuana possession against Kareem Hunt,” the Rocky River Police Department confirmed in an email to the Akron Beacon Journal today.
Browns owner Jimmy Haslam later called Hunt's actions “not acceptable.”
“We have and will continue to work closely with Kareem,” Haslam said. “But he knows our expectations are higher than what he showed a week or two ago.”
In eight games with Cleveland in 2019, Hunt rushed for 179 yards on 43 carries, scoring two touchdowns. He also caught 37 receptions for 285 yards and another score.
Hunt signed a one-year deal with his home state team after he was released by current Super Bowl champion Chiefs, and he will be a free agent in weeks to come.
Hunt had to pay the fine on a speeding ticket related to the police stop worth $211.12.
