Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is back on the field after a bout with COVID-19 last month, but his body is reeling.

Garrett had previously said after he first returned the virus “kicked my butt,” and said Friday he is still trying to get his conditioning back up to speed:

“I’m trying,’' Garrett said, via Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com. “Still doing breathing treatments and still doing conditioning on my own. I’m feeling better each day.’'

The Pro Bowler for the Browns added he does not know how long it could take him to get back to his old levels, though he said he has not lost much in terms of quick bursts:

“I’m not sure,’' Garrett said, via Kay Cabot. “I’m not sure how long it’s going to take for me to feel really 100 [percent] with my wind. Physically speed and strengthwise I feel normal, it’s just about trying not to gas out too early and trying to pace myself knowing it can jump on me rather quickly.’'

Garrett has still managed to be a factor in each of the Browns' last two games.

The former No. 1 pick for the Browns had a sack and a pair of solo tackles in a win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 13. Garrett also had three combined tackles–one for a loss–during Monday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Still, Garrett stressed the importance of taking the pandemic seriously with the Browns and realizing the long-term impact it can have on the body, even that of a world-class athlete still in the early stages of a promising career.

The Browns and Garrett face the New York Giants this weekend on Sunday Night Football. The game was flexed into the Sunday night slot, with the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys being moved out of Sunday night and into the 1 p.m. Eastern spot for NFL Week 15.
