The Cleveland Browns made headlines with the pairing of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and quarterback Baker Mayfield. It appears the young gunslinger has already made quite the impression on his new teammate.

Mayfield emerged as one of the most promising young quarterbacks in the league last season. According to Keith Britton of 92.3 The Fan, Beckham admits his fandom of him has been justified so far:

“I’ve watched Baker since Oklahoma. I think it’s the confidence. You can’t coach that. I’m going to have to get adjusted to the speed because he’s got an arm. This is completely different.”

It is encouraging to see that Beckham had already taken a liking to Mayfield prior to becoming teammates. It also comes hardly as any surprise considering the two are kindred spirits in many ways when it comes to passionate displays of competitiveness. They will undoubtedly be looking to feed off of each other's energy moving forward.

The Browns will need to gain every edge they can if they hope to follow through on the high expectations that have been set this offseason. There is certainly plenty of hype surrounding Beckham's arrival from the New York Giants, where he had established himself as one of the NFL's elite wideouts. Meanwhile, Mayfield managed to follow through on all the noise he generated by leading the resurgence in Cleveland during the 2018 campaign.

There is certainly no shortage of firepower on the Browns' offense. Although Beckham is expected to take on the No. 1 role in the passing game, the presence of good friend Jarvis Landry should help keep the defense honest. The onus will fall on Mayfield and head coach Freddie Kitchens to take full advantage of it.
