David Njoku has been in the center of headlines in the past week after publicly requesting a trade from the Cleveland Browns. The team and the player may not appear to be on the same page as of the moment. Since then, many teams have been linked to acquiring the services of the 23-year old veteran.

NFL Insider Josina Anderson detailed the latest in the current situation for Njoku on Twitter:

The Cleveland Browns selected Njoku with the 29th pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He was able to make some big plays during his first two seasons, but his consistency never came close to matching his athleticism. He also missed 10 games in 2019 due to a wrist injury which caused his numbers to drop. The nagging injury also caused him to have limited production, only tallying five receptions for 41 yards to go with a single touchdown in a span of four games.

The 6-foot-4, 246-pound player also clashed with former Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens. His work ethic and attitude were questioned by the previous regime. The team collectively underachieved despite having marquee players, finishing with a 6-10 record. The team has moved on after the disappointing season and acquired a new head coach in Kevin Stefanski.

Njoku and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, are still hoping the Browns will trade their tight end before training camp begins. The former Miami Hurricane can still be an asset and contribute immediately once he is put in the right situation. While the Browns believe they are still it, Njoku clearly thinks otherwise.
